Does my Face Match my Voice??

If you hear me on the air, you might indeed wonder what I look like.

I mean, when I hear radio voices I get mental images of people's faces, and I wonder how far off I am compared to their actual looks..

More often than not, when I finally meet ham friends  face to face, I'm shocked.  I'm shocked because of how far off  I was.

All that said, here are some pictures I took today so you can put a face to my voice.  How far off was your mental image of me?

2012 - Annual Armed Forces Day Crossband Test Scheduled for May 12

The Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard are co-sponsoring the annual Military/Amateur Radio Crossband Communications Test in celebration of the 62nd anniversary of Armed Forces Day (AFD). Although the actual Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May -- May 19 in 2012 -- the AFD Military/Amateur Crossband Communications Test will be conducted on May 12 to prevent conflict with the Dayton Hamvention®, scheduled for May 18-20.

The annual celebration features traditional military-to-amateur crossband communications SSB voice and Morse code tests. These tests give Amateur Radio operators and short wave listeners an opportunity to demonstrate their individual technical skills and to receive recognition from the appropriate military radio station for their proven expertise. QSL cards will be provided to those stations making contact with the military stations.

The Slope Antenna Demonstration

Carlos, KB5YEG, has offered to give me an antenna he says is a sloper.

I, not knowing what a sloper is, had to find out so I looked on Youtube.  My research uncovered the following  video which explains a sloper is a plain-center-fed dipole; that is simply tilted.

The guy in the video is actually speaking about another fellow's expirament (Dave) who subsequently put up 3 or 4 more slopers.

Check the video out:

New Video for Two Ham Friends, Dale - kj4uhr and Jim (Don't remember call sign - sorry)

I decided to make this video because I got the crazy idea that I  might be able to record the sound of the staff swooshing by my head.  It didn't work out very well for that purpose, but I did take the opportunity to show you some of my front yard.

I'll be looking for you on the Freewheelers net... 73s.
